Javier Hernández confident that Edson Álvarez will show his quality in the Premier League

Mexican striker Javier Hernandez has faith in compatriot Edson Alvarez after the former Ajax man made the move to the Premier League in the summer.

Álvarez, now 25, made his professional debut with Club América before signing for Ajax in 2019. He spent four successful years in the Netherlands before being snapped up by West Ham United after the English club lost captain Declan Rice to Arsenal.

In an interview with Paramount+ Chicharito says that Álvarez will be a success in England: “I think it is a good step for him in his career after Ajax and gaining experience in that league.”

“I think it’s going to be very good for him and also for his position and I think that, as we are seeing it now, West Ham are a really good team,” he said.

Chicharito has faith in former boss Moyes

West Ham United manager David Moyes has spent 25 years as a manager, mostly in the Premier League. After impressing during an 11-year stint with Everton he made the move to Manchester United to replace the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

He only managed one season at Old Trafford but Hernández, who was playing for United at the time, has a favorable impression of the Scotsman.

“Talking about David Moyes, he is a person who is more defensive than offensive from my point of view. This is going to be very good (for Edson Álvarez), I think it will be a very good step in his career,” he said.

However Hernández also worked with Moyes at West Ham, during Moyes’ first spell with the club, and had a less positive experience.

“Slaven Bilic, who did everything he could to get me to West Ham, was then sacked and they hired David Moyes,” Chicharito explained.

“Those things are out of my control, you know? It was never a problem of work or professionalism, it was a matter of tasteand sometimes there are coaches who like you more than others,” he said.
