Donald Trump has announced a major energy agreement at the White House, revealing what he described as a “historic signing” aimed at lowering electricity costs for millions of Americans.
Speaking during a roundtable event, Trump said America’s largest technology companies have officially signed a Ratepayer Protection Pledge, committing to fully cover the additional electricity production costs required to power expanding AI data centers across the country.
According to Trump, the agreement ensures that American households will not see electricity bills rise due to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence infrastructure. Instead, he claimed prices could “actually come down.”
Tech Companies to Build Their Own Power Plants
Trump explained that under the new framework, major tech firms will be encouraged to build their own power plants to support their data centers. He said the federal government would assist by fast-tracking permits to accelerate development.
He argued that communities have previously resisted data center projects due to fears of higher utility bills. However, this new pledge, he said, eliminates that concern by shifting the financial burden away from consumers and onto the companies themselves.
“This means tech companies get the electricity they need without driving up costs for American families,” Trump stated.
Strengthening the U.S. Power Grid
The former president also emphasized that the agreement would help strengthen the national electricity grid. He suggested that excess power generated by privately built plants could contribute to overall grid resilience.
Trump used the moment to highlight broader economic performance, pointing to stock market gains and claiming record-breaking milestones in major indices during his tenure.
Venezuela Oil Remarks
Earlier in his remarks, Trump referenced oil production involving Venezuela, suggesting that increased oil extraction could benefit both the United States and Venezuela economically. He framed the move as mutually beneficial and supportive of the Venezuelan people.

Among those present at the event were Mike Johnson, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and Representative Darryl Issa, alongside several senators and administration officials.
