The Iran War Could End Sooner – Donald Trump
Donald Trump Addressing The Republicans
U.S. President Donald Trump told Republican lawmakers that the ongoing conflict with Iran could end sooner than expected, describing the military campaign as a “short-term excursion” during a speech at the Republican annual policy retreat in Florida. Trump’s remarks came as he addressed members of the Republican Party, where he moved between topics including the war in Iran, tax policies, and criticism of Democrats. Observers noted that the president repeatedly shifted between prepared remarks and off-the-cuff comments during the address.

During the speech, Trump defended his administration’s military operations against Iran, claiming that U.S. forces had already destroyed about 80% of Iran’s missile launch capabilities and severely weakened its navy. “They have no navy, no communications, no air force,” Trump said, arguing that Iranian military power had been largely dismantled. He also claimed that U.S. forces had sunk nearly 50 ships belonging to the Iranian navy and were successfully intercepting Iranian drones.
The president said the drones—often inexpensive systems costing around $30,000—have posed a challenge for U.S. forces because they are frequently shot down using missiles worth millions of dollars. However, he said American strikes are now also targeting facilities where the drones are manufactured. Trump previously told CBS correspondent Weijia Jiang that U.S. operations against Iran were “far ahead of schedule.” Earlier estimates suggested the campaign could last between four and eight weeks, but Trump indicated the timeline might now be shorter.
Beyond the military conflict, Trump also highlighted domestic economic policies during the speech. He pointed to new tax measures allowing Americans to deduct interest payments on car loans—provided the vehicles are manufactured in the United States. The president argued the move would boost American manufacturing and encourage consumers to buy vehicles made domestically. Trump also promoted a proposal known as “Trump accounts,” which he said would give children in the United States financial support to help them start their journey toward the American dream.

Despite the optimistic tone about military progress, analysts say the duration and consequences of the conflict with Iran remain uncertain. Political observers also note that public opinion could shift if the war continues longer than expected. Trump is expected to address reporters after the meeting with House Republicans later in the day.
