NPP General Secretary Outlines Guidelines for the Upcoming Elections
The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, Announces Guidelines for the upcoming NPP internal elections from the Polling Station, Electoral Area Election, Constituency Executives, Regional Executive, and the National Executives election.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially released comprehensive guidelines governing its upcoming polling stations and electoral area, to the national elections, outlining nomination procedures, eligibility requirements, voting rights, and appeals processes. The party says the move is aimed at ensuring a transparent, credible, and peaceful internal electoral process.

📌 Nomination Process for Polling Station Executives
According to the guidelines:
- Nomination forms can be obtained from the Polling Station Elections Committee or the Constituency Secretariat.
- Forms may also be downloaded from the party’s official website.
- Aspirants who download forms online must pay a GHS 10 filing fee upon submission.
Where an aspirant is denied the opportunity to file nomination at the polling station level, he or she may petition and submit nomination through the Constituency or National Secretariat.
Each aspiring polling station executive must:
- Be nominated by one registered party member
- Be seconded by two registered party members
- All nominators must be in good standing at the same polling station
✅ Qualification and Eligibility Requirements
To contest in the polling station elections, a person must:
- Be a registered member of the NPP.
- Be a member in good standing (fully paid membership dues — currently GHS 24 per year).
- Reside within the electoral area where the polling station is located.
- Be a registered voter with the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
- Demonstrate active membership in the party for at least one year.
- Not have forfeited membership by supporting another political party or candidate.
- Vote at the polling station where they seek to contest.
The party emphasized that individuals who do not reside in the electoral area cannot contest.
📚 Educational and Age Requirements
Certain positions carry additional requirements:
- Polling Station Secretary & Electoral Affairs Officer must possess at least a Senior High School qualification.
- Polling Station Youth Organizer must not be above 40 years.
- Organizers (Women, Youth, General) must demonstrate physical fitness, vibrance, and active engagement.
It is the responsibility of each aspirant to prove eligibility to the Polling Station Elections Committee.
⚖ Appeals Process
- Appeals against decisions of the Polling Station Elections Committee go to the Constituency Executive Committee within 48 hours.
- Further dissatisfaction may be referred to the Regional Executive Committee.
- The Regional decision shall be final.
🗳 Who Can Vote?
Only party members:
- Whose names appear in the polling station register
- Who have paid dues for at least one year prior to the election
Voters must present:
- Party membership card or dues booklet
- Or a valid national ID if unavailable

Seven executive positions are open for contest:
- Polling Station Chairperson
- Polling Station Secretary
- Polling Station Organizer
- Polling Station Women Organizer
- Polling Station Youth Organizer
- Polling Station Electoral Affairs Officer
- Polling Station Communications Officer
🏢 Electoral Area Elections Structure
Electoral area elections will be supervised by:
- Constituency Executive Committee
- Regional Steering Committee
- National Secretariat (oversight role)
A three-member Electoral Area Elections Committee will conduct the process:
- One representative appointed by the Regional Steering Committee (Chairperson)
- Two members appointed by the Constituency Executive Committee
- Where there is a sitting MP, one representative shall be nominated by the MP
Each Electoral Area Elections Committee may conduct no more than five electoral area elections, unless granted approval by the National Secretariat. Importantly, members of the Electoral Area Elections Committee cannot contest in those elections.
