Mzbel Opens Up on NDC Experience, Refocuses on Music Career
Ghanaian hiplife artist Mzbel has revealed that she feels misled into actively joining the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stating that her expectations of mainstream politics did not match reality. According to the musician, she initially entered politics with the hope of advancing her dreams, but later realized that things were not as she had been told. She noted that her public support and campaign involvement for the party did not yield the outcomes she anticipated, either professionally or personally.
Mzbel Disappointment in NDC
Mzbel disclosed that her career has also been affected since aligning with the NDC. She explained that during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, she secured several performance opportunities, including appearances on Wontumi TV, without having to lobby. She said that her active involvement in politics has decreased her numbers. However, she claims that since the NDC came into power, her efforts to seek support from individuals she believed could help have been unsuccessful. Despite her experience, Mzbel emphasized that she does not regret joining the party, saying it has been a learning curve.
“I am not disappointed in joining the NDC because it is a lesson. I have learned something valuable that I can share with others who may seek my advice,” she said. She further revealed that she personally funded a significant portion of her contributions to the party, stating that she sponsored about 60 percent of the activities she supported, with the remaining 40 percent coming from others. Mzbel has now announced that she is no longer a member of the NDC and is shifting her full attention back to her music career. She said her decision to speak publicly is to clarify misconceptions among her fans and supporters.
“I am saying this so my people understand that I have not been receiving any benefits and am refusing to help them. I also want those who think I am enjoying the party to know that whatever I have comes from my own effort,” she explained. The artist’s remarks have sparked conversations about the relationship between entertainment figures and political affiliations in Ghana.
