  • John Terry spent 19 years on the books at Chelsea, winning a total of 17 trophies
  • His final game saw him lose to Fulham, playing for Aston Villa in the play-off final

John Terry has found himself in the middle of a social media spat with Fulham fans after reacting to a post mocking his tears in his final ever appearance in senior football.

Terry spent the vast majority of his time with Chelsea – historic and local rivals to Fulham – winning 17 trophies, including a Champions League and five Premier Leagues.

His final ever game, however, came at Wembley with Aston Villa – where he spent his final season in 2017-18 – in a campaign that saw the Midlands club reach the Championship final, only to be beaten by Fulham 1-0.

One Fulham fan, quoting a post about bitter rivals Brentford, brought up one of his favorite memories – ‘making John Terry cry on his last ever game’.

While Terry was not tagged it soon ended up on his timeline and he could not resist firing back at the fan.

‘I have won more trophies since I retired than Fulham have in 50 years,’ Terry wrote. ‘One team in London and it will NEVER be Fulham!’

Rather than quash the squabble there and then, Terry’s words inspired a hilarious comeback from Fulham’s own admin on the X platform.

The account retorted with a GIF of The Inbetweeners’ Jay Cartwright, suggesting the former center back had been rattled, having been provoked into a response.

And Cottagers supporters were quick to applaud their admin’s efforts, rushing to the comments to show their approval.

One wrote: ‘Best thing admin have done.’

Another echoed the sentiment: ‘Brilliant from the admin!!!’

A third said: ‘Brilliant. My club.’

A fourth was quick to point out that despite Terry’s response, Fulham actually finished above their historic rivals in the top-flight last term, adding: ‘Someone remind Terry that they finished below Fulham last season.’

And a fifth concluded: ‘Love you admin.’

Fulham’s classic reply has been viewed more than three million times.

Terry, perhaps sensibly, decided against escalating it further as his mentions soon flooded with fans telling him he had been ‘owned’ by Fulham’s social media team.

In 26 meetings in his playing days, Terry only lost to Fulham three times, beating them on 17 occasions.

Throughout his career, the English defender would only score more goals (five) against Arsenal than he did against Fulham and Charlton (four).

The former Chelsea and England center back has been linked with a first managerial position with Saudi Pro League side Al-Shaddab in recent days, as he looks to make the transition to the dugout having held a number of assistant roles. This would be the first full managerial role the Englishman would take on, after working as a consultant in Chelsea’s youth academy this year.
