Bryan Acheampong: If Not God Who Placed Me Between Kennedy and Bawumia, It Will Be at War
Dr. Bryan Acheampong, one of the presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has questioned the party’s electoral performance under its 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mohammadu Bawumia.
According to him, former President John Mahama won all six parliamentary seats for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Savanna Region, while the NPP failed to secure a single seat. He said attempts to raise these concerns are often dismissed as “Nkonkonsa part 4.”
Dr. Acheampong further stated that out of about 3,000 Zongo polling stations in Efutu communities across Ghana, Dr. Bawumia won only one polling station with just six votes. He added that party officials insist the 2024 candidate won only one seat and that the issue should not be discussed.
He stressed that he is the only one among the five aspirants capable of winning political power for the NPP. According to him, his confidence is based on the fact that he has toured all 275 constituencies across the country, giving him a better understanding of the party’s grassroots challenges.
Recounting events at the NPP peace-signing ceremony, Dr. Acheampong said it was God who positioned him between Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Dr. Mohammadu Bawumia. He claimed the tension between the two was visible, noting that Kennedy Agyapong arrived first and was advised to greet Kwabena Agyei Agyapong and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum. When Dr. Bawumia later arrived, he allegedly did not greet Kennedy Agyapong before taking his seat.
Dr. Acheampong said both men appeared unhappy, prompting him to urge them to smile for the cameras to project unity, as the event was being broadcast live on national television.
