In NPP, the situation shows that some of these actors are merely acquaintances – Kwame Jantuah

So who is telling the truth? Both Ken and Dr. Bawumia have held very high offices in this country

What this situation shows is that some of these actors are merely acquaintances, willing to undermine each other just to win. We have seen peace accords and agreements signed many times in this country, even during general elections—some are respected, others are not. So the question is, how effective will these agreements really be?

The real responsibility lies with the party leadership. They must go down to the grassroots, identify the root causes of these tensions, and resolve them. There are unspoken factions within the NPP, where some individuals support certain candidates to the detriment of others. Supporting a candidate is fine, but the scheming and deliberate attempts to discredit others can be deeply painful and destructive.

My biggest concern—and I sincerely hope it does not happen—is the role that money could play. If money becomes a major factor, that is where the real viciousness will emerge. We do not need that now.

Ghana does not need a one-party state. We need a strong opposition to keep the government in check and ensure accountability. For that to happen, the NPP must unite. Peace-signing ceremonies alone will not achieve unity when there are deep cracks within the party that remain unresolved.

There is already a perception that, no matter what happens, Dr. Bawumia is the preferred option. At the same time, we are being told that Ken is gaining momentum and possibly leading. If expectations are raised that Ken is ahead and he does not win, imagine the fallout. I only hope that, whatever comes out, it will not involve allegations about money and who paid more than whom.

In the end, I wish them all well. I hope that on 31st December there will be no violence, no chaos, and no agibaji. I hope they will all accept the outcome, embrace the winner, and move forward in unity. Ghana deserves nothing less.
