The Progressive Alliance of Ghana has welcomed the government’s acceptance of the Bawku Mediation Report produced by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and his committee, describing it as a credible pathway to end the long-standing conflict.

In a statement released on Thursday, the party commended Otumfuo for his “tireless efforts in facilitating dialogue” and lauded the government for its “swift endorsement” of the document. The PAG said the move represents a “decisive step toward restoring lasting peace in Bawku and its surrounding areas.”

Dr John Kpikpi, the party’s 2024 Presidential Candidate, stated that “the mediation process has provided a lawful and credible pathway to end years of violence and uncertainty.” He added that the government’s acceptance “reinforces the authority of traditional institutions and affirms the need for justice, reconciliation and the rule of law as the foundation for sustainable peace.”

The party called on all parties to the conflict to respect the outcome of the mediation and cooperate fully with its implementation. It also urged the government to act on the report’s recommendations “with urgency, transparency and sensitivity to the affected communities.”

The statement emphasised that the PAG “remains committed to supporting all peaceful, lawful and inclusive efforts that will bring enduring stability and development to Bawku.”

The release follows the government’s announcement on Wednesday of a GH¢1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund and its affirmation of Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II as the legitimate Bawku Naba, in line with the mediation report.
