Kofi Akpaloo to sue Mahama’s government

The founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana, Percival Kofi Akpaloo, says he is preparing to sue the government of John Dramani Mahama over what he describes as wrongful arrest and defamation.

According to Mr. Akpaloo, the government owes him money for contracts he executed, insisting that contractors are not normally paid before beginning projects. He claimed his arrest was intended to intimidate him and damage his reputation.

Mr. Akpaloo also denied allegations that he forged documents to secure the contract. He explained that he financed the project with his own resources without support from his business partner, adding that the disagreement only began after payment from the government was expected.

“He claimed I forged his documents for the contract and that he knew nothing about the submission. If that is true, why does he now want to take the money from the same contract he says he knew nothing about?” Mr. Akpaloo questioned.

Speaking on Ezra TV, he maintained that the matter is a private dispute between himself and his partner and not an issue involving the state.

“I have an issue with my partner, not the government. The government only intervened. I do not owe the state; rather, the government owes me. The Cocoa Board owes me for the contract work I completed, but I was arrested because of hatred,” he stated.
